String Quintet
Bringing a fresh perspective to the Romantic string quintets of George Onslow, Ensemble Telos unites five distinguished musicians from leading international institutions. Violinist Patrick Yim (University of Notre Dame) has performed with Juilliard, Emerson and St. Lawrence string quartet members, and premiered over 50 commissioned works, including a 2024 work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Zhou Long. Fellow violinist Natalie Lin Douglas (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) is the founder of Kinetic Ensemble, a group praised for championing new and diverse repertoire for string orchestra, including over 30 premieres. A prizewinner of the Michael Hill and Klein international competitions, she has toured extensively and performed with renowned artists such as Clarice Assad and Miguel Zenón. Violist Eric Wong (Vanderbilt University) is a lifelong quartet devotee and a member of the Blair String Quartet. A former member of the Afiara, Cavani and Linden string quartets, he has performed at iconic venues including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. As a co-founder and artistic director of the Flatirons Chamber Music Festival, lauded cellist Jamie Clark (The University of Iowa) champions collaborative outreach and community engagement, and has received grants to commission seven new works for solo cello. Double bassist Matthew Baker (Berklee Valencia) began his professional career at the age of 13, and is a founding member of the Valencia Baryton Project, a world-class ensemble dedicated to reviving the baryton. His work on George Onslow’s quintets with Naxos Records is a core focus, bringing both performance and scholarship to the forefront of the quintet’s mission to illuminate the composer’s unique voice.
